Estimate the energy your body uses at rest.

What does this result mean?

BMR means basal metabolic rate: energy needed for basic body functions at rest. This tool uses a resting-energy equation as an approximation.

Compare the resting estimate with a daily estimate that includes activity.

What can’t this calculator tell me?

BMR is not normally the amount to eat on a typical active day, and this equation does not measure your metabolism directly.

How is it calculated?

Mifflin–St Jeor uses age, weight, height and the male/female equation category to estimate resting energy. The original equation estimates resting metabolic rate rather than laboratory-measured BMR.
